This episode of Big Blend Radio's Music Monday show features Swiss guitarist Stephan Thelen and his American counterpart Jon Durant who have teamed up for an international musical conversation. The pair conceived and executed the album “Crossings” during the Covid lockdowns of 2020. Each working in his own home studio, Thelen on Lake Zürich, Durant on the Willamette River, the pair fell into a remarkable sense of shared purpose as they developed the seven tracks that comprise the album. While the album was entirely done with guitars (and one bass part), there are frequent trips into sonic spheres that bear little resemblance to the traditional sounds of the instrument they share.More Info and to Purchase the Album:https://jondurant.bandcamp.com/ https://stephanthelen.bandcamp.com/ Thanks to the National Parks Arts Foundation for sponsoring this episode - more: https://nationalparksartsfoundation.org/ Hosted on Acast. Tucson artist Ted DeGrazia (1909-1982) fell under the spell of the Superstition Mountains of central Arizona. From the late 1940’s to the late 1970’s he was a frequent visitor to the mysterious mountain range, exploring the backcountry on horseback and prospecting for gold. The legends, history, natural beauty, and native cultures of the Superstitions fascinated the artist and inspired essays, drawings, and paintings for his 1972 book “DeGrazia and his Mountain – The Superstition.” This episode of Big Blend Radio’s Toast to the Arts Show features Lance Laber, Executive Director of the DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun. Lance discusses the life of artist Ted DeGrazia and the new exhibit “DeGrazia’s Superstition Mountain Collection” on display from July 6, 2021- January 26, 2022. DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun is 10-acre historic landmark nestled in the foothills of the Santa Catalina Mountains in Tucson, Arizona. Opened in 1965, it is home to over 15,000 originals of Ted DeGrazia art pieces including oil paintings, watercolors, ceramics and sculptures.
